Amazon EC2 ‘WARNING UNPROTECTED PRIVATE KEY FILE’
November 2nd, 2008 • Related • Filed Under
playing around today with Amazon’s EC2 web service… and got this error ‘WARNING UNPROTECTED PRIVATE KEY FILE’ while trying to connect via ssh using the ‘ElasticFox’ firefox addon. Apparently ElasticFox assumes that you have your file located in /Users/youruser/ec2-keys/ … (i’m on OSX), and EC2 requires that directory to be CHMOD 700, and the .pem key to be CHMOD 600. took me a bit to figure out… so i thought i’d contribute the ‘fix’ to the masses in case someone else runs into the same issue. ![]()
