the after-Christmas spirit

melissa and i decided that we would spend a bit of time shopping the day after Christmas in order to take advantage of the specials that some stores put out for what is remaining after the annual retail feast. of particular interest to my wife were the holiday decorations and wrapping paper, as this stuff is seasonal and usually marked down by 50% or more once the beast of Christmas capitalism has had its full and is found lying on the ground conveyor belts up, rubbing it’s cash register.

we had been to Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens and Things, Lowes, and finally stopped at the local Target (i think it’s pronounced ‘tar-jay’, as they are a french owned company, and the french… like the canadians seem to like ending things with ‘eh’). we really had not gotten much for decorations, but had managed to get duped into picking up a few ‘clearance’ items here and there using gift certificates we got and remaining food budget cash. Well… while we were at target, melissa found a few nice pillows on clearance, along with a basket and some other foo-foo round beaded table cover thing that was apparently the only one remaining. if there is anything i have learned, it is that if ever my wife asks me… ‘do you think this will match *insert-whatever-here*? the answer is always ‘yes’… because i know that she has already made up her mind and is really just asking me for confirmation. if i really knew the answer, i probably wouldn’t be married if you catch my drift.

so there we were at Tarjay, looking at the Christmas decorations… and we had left our shopping cart a few aisles over from where we were being feasted upon. when we returned to our carriage, the foo-foo round beaded table cover thing was gone! someone had taken it! i don’t think i have ever seen my wife that angry or determined to cause harm on someone! as i followed her around the store, i realized that she was actually looking for the person who took her hard found foo-foo round beaded table cover thing! so, we split up, and i managed to find the object in a woman’s cart in electronics. while she was looking at a TV with one of her kids, i stole it from her cart and ran with our cart to the check-out. along the way melissa was coming the other direction and i motioned for her to turn around and head (quickly) to the checkout, where i gave her the cart and continued for the car.

her hero was rewarded with a smoothie from Smoothie King. :)
